Flat design: the latest web design trend
In this video, I am going to give you a quick overview of flat design. I’ll explain what it is, give you a few tips on how to use it, and direct you to some great example websites for you to take a look at before tomorrow’s video, where we’ll go into more detail.
Hi Zach,
Thank you for this very useful tutorial. I have seen this trending around, but never thought about digging in deeper to see why the colors are so basic.
But it’s great, actually, and I look forward to tomorrow’s com cast. Enjoy your day!
Helen
Sweet! Yeah, I really have become a big fan of it. And I am quite excited to get to brag about my new design once it’s on a live site. ๐
Nice work Zack. Thanks for doing these vids and it is always great to learn new things and you are helping us do that with these cool daily video. You are doing great things my friend.
Yes, Flat design is cool and I hope it catches on everywhere. It seems to be pretty easy to design for since it is not filled with a thousand gradients and shadows and whatnot. Thanks again for the knowledge Zach and keep up the great work.
Thanks Buzz! It is indeed. It still takes just as long, if not longer, since it’s much harder to make something that’s clean and simple vs. something that’s complex. But it is definitely easy to understand how to do. ๐
For those that cannot afford Photoshop (like me), GIMP is a great alternative. Yes, Photoshop is better, but GIMP is free and works great! And Photoshop is so crazy expensive I cannot even begin to entertain purchasing it. That free trial is great but it will run out and then what do you do?
I don’t like gimp for web design. It’s okay for image editing, but their shape management kinda sucks. With Adobe’s new continuity programs, photoshop actually is pretty darn affordable. You can buy photoshop direct from adobe for $20/month. I know what it’s like to be broke, but we can all afford 20 bucks a month for a resource that makes it easier to make money with your services. ๐
Hm…forgot they are now doing that monthly dealio. Hm. Might have to think about that. The sucky part is that my hubby actually has Photoshop, since he’s a video photographer/editor…but his computer is a Mac and mine’s a pc, so I can’t use it (not that I’d be able to install a second copy anyway!)
With the subscription you can use it on either a Mac or PC. They allow it to be installed on two computers as long as they’re not used at the same time. They can be any combination. Mac/Mac PC/PC Mac/PC
